Garoted/Praise Murder, Praise Hate, Praise TheDevil/2010 CD Review

Garoted are a band from Nebraska that plays a very brutal form of death metal with a blackened edge and this is a review of their self released 2010 album "Praise Murder, Praise Hate, Praise The Devil.

Drums alternate between midpaced to fast drumming with alot of brutal blast beats, while the bass playing has a very powerful tone which is very easy to hear at times with some heavy riffing.

Rhythm guitars alternate between midpaced to fast brutal death metal riffs that have a black metal edge to them at times, while the lead guitars are very chaotic sounding death metal guitar solos.

Vocals are mostly deep death metal growls with some high pitched screams being thrown in at times, while the lyrics cover santhropy, Death, Creatures, Occultism and Anti Christianity, as for the production it has a very heavy and raw feel to it, but still retains a professional quality with all of the musical instruments having a brutal sound.

In my opinion Garoted are a very good brutal death metal band with a blackened edge and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECEMMONDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dissolution Of The Divine" "With The Hammer" and "Heretic Fire". RECEMMONDED BUY.

Diabolic/Excisions Of Excorism/DeathGasmRecords/2010 CD Review

Diabolic are a band from Florida that has a history dating back to the 90's that plays satanic death metal with a blackened touch and this is a review of their 2010 album "Excisions Of Excorcism" which was released by DeathGasm Records.

Drums are mostly fast and technical with alot of blast beats, while the bass playing is all fast and midpaced riffing that follows that riffs that are coming out of the guitars, as for the keyboards they are only used on this song and they have an evil and avant garde sound to them.

Rhythm guitars are all fast and brutal death metal riffs that are very heavy and brutal and also have a small amount of influences from blackened death metal along with some midpaced riffing that has a doom/death feel but is only used on one song, while the leads are very fast and distorted sounding guitar solos.

Vocals are all deep death metal growls with a small amount of high pitched screams and some spoken word parts on the last song that have a ritualistic feel to them, while the lyrics are very hateful, anti christaian and satanic, as for the production on this recording it sounds very heavy and professional with all of the instruments sounding very brutal.

In my opinion Diabolic are a very good death metal band and this is the most brutal album that I have heard from this band and if you are a fan of their previous works and other brutal death metal bands you wont be disapointed. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Excisions Of Excorcism" "Bloodwashed" "False Belief" and "Fragmented Kreation". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Evil Incarnate Interview

1. Can you update us with what is going on with the band these days?
EvilMike- well, the Original drummer i created this band with AndiChrist had moved back to Houston Texas for a job opportunity because as you know this shit is for the love of the Musick and very few can actually make a living off of it if any but we wrote a entire new cd of songs and recorded a 2 song demo that is up on our player. i want to record the songs we wrote in the fall because these songs just wont be the same without Andy and we talked about this and both feel the same way about it. he understands im still jamming with other guys to keep it alive. i have had to teach several Guitarists who have come and gone since Rob is now long gone from the Kult and now i am very happy with the replacement Guitarist Roberto from Italian band NO MERCY living here now in the States. we have another new Drummer Ryan from a Local Chicago band DEVANGELIST (who just replaced Brett Fugate ex IMPETIGO/ANGEL KILL Drummer) and he is now learning our live set for coming events. i would like to Record the CD/LP with Andy as mentioned and because we cant jam together and do shows i will then continue writing yet another new CD/LP with Roberto and Ryan. i want to always expieriment a little each CD but since i have always been the main Musical contributor besides Andy's Arrangements and humming out riffs ideas, the riffs will stay true to our sound. it will be interesting for sure and after all these years thats something i personally need to remain focussed and Motivated.

2. You have been around for awhile, what influence do you feel that you have on the more evil death metal bands that exist these days?
EvilMike- i am a Humble guy and i have never been into these Rock Star Attitudes some guys have a reputation of having but to answer the question we have been told quit often we have influenced younger bands. i am just glad to have made my contribution to the scene and it has been my Honor to have had this opportunity to be considerd among the Elite level of Veteran Musicians in America. we have always stood out among the Crowd and will remain to do so. who wants to be a clone band i say. influences are one thing and we all have them but you gotta do your own thing even if it takes a little longer to be accepted for it.

3. How has your newer material been recieved by Extreme Metal Fans Worldwide?
EvilMike- Nothing but Great words have been said about the new stuff people have heard. actually some have even said it is like our best stuff from our past yet even better. that has a lot to do with Andy and myself writing together again for this. that is a Chemistry we have always had and is very, very hard to find if even ever. if i did not have a family to bring with and was only myself i would move to Houston to Jam with my good Friend in a HeartBeat.

4. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
EvilMike- hands down some of our best shows were with Andy for sure but when we toured in Mexico/USA the shows in Mexico were the Best we have ever had Crowdwise. our performance is a Bombastic Assault of Blasphemy. we love to interact with the Crowd and our fans are always the Best and completely DieHard Metal Maniacs.

5. Are there any plans for a European tour?
EvilMike- of course we have ALWAYS wanted to Tour Europe we just cant afford the Tour support plus the Flieghts so thats the only problem. we have had several killer Tour opportunities offerd to us but for the Explained reasons we have not been able to commit. i am confident someday a Label will make this happen for us.

6. Are any of the current members involved with any side projects?
EvilMike- the current and very new Drummer Ryan is still involved with his band DEVANGELIST from The Chicagoland area.

7. How would you describe the musical progress over the years and what direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?
EvilMike- you have to keep in mind the style of the Drummer and Maximize the situation. if Ryan sticks to this and i hope he does we will go ultra Fast. Roberto likes to play Ultra Fast and Technical so im lookin forward to that as its something i have wanted to do. a super fast EI Album...the CD/LP With Andy will be along the lines of our 2 demo traks that will be on that CD/LP and on our player the tracks i am talking about are titled "Fortress of Sodom" and "Gospel of Blasphemy".

8. Out off all the albums that you have recorded so far which one are you the most satisfied with?
EvilMike- the new stuff i wrote with Andy hands down. this will be my fave CD/LP but i guess i would say i am torn between "Blackest Hymns of Gods Disgrace" we wrote together with Rob Rigney and the CD/LP "Waiting for His Return" Rigney and i wrote/Record together with Garrett the Drummer for that release who's now been Touring/Recording with our friends LIVIDITY past few years.

9.What are some bands or music styles that have influenced your lyrics and what are you listening to nowadays?
EvilMike- The Influences remain the same still and have always been stuff like GRAVE, DISMEMBER, SLAYER, SODOM, VITAL REMAINS, BATHORY, VENOM, DEICIDE, MORBID ANGEL. newer stuff theres not much i enjoy other than BEHEMOTH and ive been getting more into BELPHEGOR, BLACK DAHLIA MURDER is ok.

10. Where do you draw your views on Satanism, what occult philosophers, authors, orders, or practices helped influence your approach to Satanism?
EvilMike- The Order of The Black Sun should sum it up for you if you are familiar with this subject.

11. What are some of your interests outside of music?
EvilMike- Conspiracy Thoeries and Politics...although i do not Believe in Christ as the Bible we all know of reads i do know we have a Dark Force and love the Chance to Blaspheme this Christ so when i catch up on news from places that Expose The False Government we have here on sites like www.infowars.com it makes me cringe that they mention people need to get right with God from time to time but this sort of exposing of People like The Banksters/Assholes Rothchilds and Bilderburg Groups Zionist Scum and Communists like Obama interests me as it is My duty here to spread the Word as a American. they will not take away our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Better Dead than Red!!!
i am also into Sports like Boxing, Wrestling, MMA, and Powerlifting and a big Fishing guy. i love to catch big Game Fish like Large Mouth Bass and Walley. i havent had the pleasure of catching a Musky but im workin on it.

12. Any final words or thoughts?
EvilMike- TV is called Television Programming for a reason. Never trust your Government and always ask questions. in the recent MIAC Report they actually listed people like ex-Vets and ex-Police and also Moms who Homeschool children as Terrorists. give me a Fuckin break! RON PAUL for President!!!without a free Society i would'nt be able to do the things i do and neither will anyone else. Believe it, it can and just might happen. maybe i should be writing songs about this because these guys are the True Evil Incarnate. Actually if they get thier way and Enslave us all these Commie Zionists Scum bags we might not even be allowed to have Extreme Metal anymore. never forget Communist Marxist Russia for example...Socialism will only open the doorway for this no matter how well they Sugar coat it. www.myspace.com/evilincarnatekult

Nominon Interview

Answered by Perra Karlsson (Drums Ov Death)

1. Can you update us with what is going on with Nominon these days?

-Hell. We're preparing ourselves for the forthcoming US tour that will be start June 24th in Atlanta, GA and go through Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Illinois, Ohio and Massachusetts before ending up in New York City July 6th. The tour will go under the banner "Death Metal Darkness" and besides NOMINON it also features INFINITUM OBSCURE from Mexico and QUINTA ESSENTIA from Alabama, both bands are fucking awesome and we have known both of them for years. It's a wet dream come true for any Death Metal maniac over there, nuff said.

2. I read in a previous interview that you take your name out of The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abrabelin The Mage what was it that interested you about this grimoire?

-It was either Peter or Juha who came up with the name. The original idea and first logo actually said VARGAVINTER, but the band decided to change the name to NOMINON after a short period of time. We have always been interested in lots of occultism, magic and other extreme stuff in general. As NOMINON is a name of a demon, a servant to Satan, it certainly fits like a glove.

3. When I was listening to your music you had a song called Mantra Reverse and a song about Shiva, what interest do you have in the Eastern esoteric paths?

-Isn't it obvious that we as a band are into themes like War, Destruction and Death?! That's definitely something that Shiva can be associated with for example. As I previously stated, we are into lots of extremities, so anything that we find interesting enough could end up being written about in any of our lyrics really. Get hold of our albums and find out, just remember to have an clear sight and open mind about things. Who knows, you might end up being able to handle life a little bit more mature further on.

4. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

-NOMINON are a Death Metal band, so if you don't like Death Metal don't fucking come to any of our shows. We deliver aggression, intensity and uncontrollable energies of any sort. It's like a bloody rampage. I'd say that my personal favorite shows so far are Central Illinois Metalfest in Urbana, Illinois summer 2008. Trnava, Slovakia in 2004. The Fuck The Commerce fest in Germany 2005, and most certainly the show at Blue Box in Sofia, Bulgaria late 2008 stands out for sure. Now with this new album I'm not so certain that people will stand up after a NOMINON show. It's so much aggression and hatred being released during our set that some people might faint from fear. Then again, if you can't stand the heat in the line of fire, step aside.

5. I have read that you are going to tour the U.s this year, what are your thoughts of the upcoming tour and what do you expect from it?

-Unleash the new material in a live situation also to our North American brothers and sisters, that is what we are looking forward to do. We did a tour over there two years ago and the response were just fucking amazing. So we keep marching on pretty much, invading some new territories and collect some further skulls to our unholy pact.

6. How would you compare DeathGasm Records to the other labels that you have been on and how has the support been so far?

-Deathgasm Records has been treating NOMINON extremely well over the years, so we have no complaints really. We also share the same interest both for extreme music as well as the infernal hatred towards mankind, which is just as important if you ask me.

7. How has the reception been to your music so far from death metal fans worldwide?

-Awesome! Especially with this new album "Monumentomb". We have never done as much promotion in the past as we have done for this new one, and it never ends. It's like a massive persistent campaign of death, destruction and endless darkness. It was however expected. After all; Just listen to the new album and you'll understand why, unless of course you're out of intelligence quotient.

8. Are there any other current side projects going on , if so who are they and what kind of music do they play?

-I am always open for suggestion and ideas when it comes to playing drums. Even though I usually turn everything down. The next thing I'll personally be involved with is playing session live drums for DESTROYER 666 on their upcoming US and EU tours. That's gonna be sick. What a genuine band. If people doesn't know what kind of music DESTROYER 666 plays then they should just fuck off, period!

9. How would you describe the musical progress over the years and what direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?

-I'd say that we have become better musicians and song-writers. We certainly like to take things a step further with each and every new song, as well as album too for that matter. We also appreciate to evolve and challenge some of the sick ideas any of us might have, to reach a higher exhilaration as individuals, musicians and group. This meaning also describes why we doesn't release a new shit album each and every year as some of the bands out there constantly continues to do. We want the albums to be a statement and declaration of pure malevolent music performed with a genuine spirit that only a very few people can relate to and most probably even understand and relish.

10. Out off all the albums the band has recorded so far, which one are you ther most satisfied with?

-"Monumentomb".

11. What are some bands or music styles that have influenced your music and what are you listening to nowadays?

-We support bands and music that are for real. It doesn't necessarily mean that we only listen to Death Metal. To give you some examples of groups that we support; IRON MAIDEN, ROOT, MORBID ANGEL, TESTAMENT, AC/DC, NUNSLAUGHTER, SLAYER, YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN'S RISING FORCE, EXODUS, BENEDICTION and handful more, that's enough really.

12. The band has been around since the early 90's, what is it that has motivated to stay around this long and put out the brutal death metal albums that you have released?

-The music is what makes us tick, honestly. We for one do find affection in writing and performing the sickest music known to man; Death Metal. If some freaks out there might be into what we're doing, then that's just a fine bonus. Seriously, it is the music that counts, not who's in the band or who's not in the band. NOMINON are the ancient entity that will most likely continue sickening people's intellect until the end of days.

13. Does Satansim or any other forms of Occultism play any role in the music?

-Yes, mainly in the lyrics.

14. What are some of your interests outside of music?

-None.

15. Any final words or thoughts?

-Appreciate your support. For further band info, news, tour updates, merchandise etc check out www.nominon.com - www.myspace.com/nominon

Nominon/Monumentomb/DeathGasm Records/2010 CD Review

Nominon are a band from Sweden that has been around since the early 90's that plays an unholy form of Swedish death metal and this is a review of their 2010 album "Monumentomb" which was released by DeathGasm Records.

Drums are very fast with alot of blast beats that are very brutal mixed in with some ocassional slow to midpaced beats, while the bass playing is all rhythm bass that follows the riffs coming out of the guitars and they also have a very powerful sound of their own at times.

Rhythm guitars are fast Swedish style death metal riffs that contain a small amount of melody with some slow to midpaced riffing, while the lead guitars are very distorted sounding solos that have an evil sound that brings chaos to the music.

Vocals are a mixture of high pitchrd screams and deep death metal growls, while the lyrics touch on the darker side of the Vedic religion mixed with some left hand path and hateful themes, as for the production on this album it sounds very professional and you can hear all of the instruments that are present on this recording.

In my opinion Nominon are a very talented death metal band, and if you are a fan of brutal and evil Swedish death metal you should check this band out. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Archfiend" "Mantra Reverse" "Omen" and "Wrath Of Shiva". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Belial/Gods Of The Pit PT. II/Moribund Records/1993 E.P Review

Belial are a band from Finland that plays a style of music that I would describe as blackened death metal and this is a review of their 1993 e.p "The Gods of the pit pt. II" which was released by Moribund Records.

Drums alternate between slow to midpaced beats with some fast parts as well as some very brutal blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark tone and thre is a good mixture of slow and fast riffs.

Rhythm guitars are tuned down low to make the slow parts sound alot heavier while the fast parts are death metal riffing with some early European black metal influences, while the lead guitars are very raw, noisy and chaotic guitar solos.

Vocals are all low pitched death growls with some of the vocals having an extra deep necro feel, while the lyrics are kind of occultic as well as cover some of your typical death metal themes, as for the production on this album which was recorded at Tico-Tico by Ahti Kortelaineen has a very raw feel which makes the music alot darker than most death metal bands.

In my opinion Belial where a very underrated band for their time and if you are a fan of evil sounding death metal with a blackened touch you should try really hard to look for this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "THe Invocation and "For Them". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Altar/In The Name Of The Father/Pavement Records/2000 CD Review

Altar are a band from the Netherlands that plays a style of music that I would describe as death/thrash with a blackened touch and this is a review of their 2000 album "In The Name Of The Father" which was released by Pavement Records in the year of 2000.

Drums are very fast and technical with a  lot of blast beats while the bass playing has a  lot of fast riffs that follow the guitars and is all rhythm bass.

Rhythm guitars are mostly fast death metal riffs with some mid  paced parts as well as some melody and thrash influences, while the lead guitars are fast and melodic guitars sols that have some black metal influences.

Vocals are mostly high pitched death metal growls that are very thrash influenced with a black edge at times while the lyrics cover such topics as anti christian, hatred and a touch of porn, as for the production on this recording sounds very professional and you can hear all off the musical instruments.

In my opinion Altar is a very good band for this style of metal and if you are a fan of classic anti christian death/thrash with a blackened feel you should add this album to your collection. STANDOUT TRACKS INCLUDE "God Damn You" "I Spit Black Bile On You" "Walhalla Express" "In Our Dominion" and "The Trooper". RECOMMENDED BUY

Blood Ritual/Black Grimoire/Moribund Records/2005 CD Review

Blood Ritual are a band that is originally from Seattle,Washington but know lives in Portland,Oregon that plays a style that I would describe as Satanic death metal with a blackened touch and this is a review of their 2005 album "Black Grimoire" which was released by Moribund Records during the year of 2005.

Drums are mostly fast with alot of blast beats and when the music slows down so does the drumming to give the music a more evil edge, while the bass playing is very dark and distorted sounding with a mixture of fast and slow riffs and at times there are some very powerful bass leads.

Rythym guitars cover alot of ground with some real fast death metal riffs that have some black metal influences mixed in with some more slower melodic riffs that kind of have a doomy feel to them while the guitar leads are very fast and also contain alot of melody as well as some exotic sounding scales.

Vocals are mostly low pitched death metal growls with some ocassional high pitched screams and on the last song there are some clean ritualistic vocals, while the lyrics are satanic rituals with alot of the averse sephiroth of the Caballa entwined together with one song being a tribute to Anton LaVey and there lyric approach which would be perfect for black metal gives them some originality in the death metal field, as for the production on this recording which was recorded and engineered by Jesse O' Donnel at Autopsy Room in Seatlle,Washington sounds very professional and you can hear all of the musical instruments.

In my opinion this is a very good album and Blood Ritual are probably one of the best bands that plays Blackened death Metal. Fans of Satanic death metal or other forms of evel metal should pick up this album.
RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "InvocationSatan" "Necromancy" "Destruction Ritual" and "Ur Song". RECOMMENDED BUY

Hypocrisy/Into The Abyss/Nuclear Blast/2000 CD Review

Hypocrisy are a band from Sweden that has been around for more than 20years which I would describe as death metal with a blackened/atmospheric touch and this is a review of their classic album "Into The Abyss" which was released in 2000 by Nuclear Blast.

Drums are very fast and technicsl with alot of brutal blast beats that sound very powerful while the bass playing kind off has a role of a lead bass but most of the time it is rythym bass with alot of fast riffs, as for the keyboards when they are utilized they sound very atmospheric

Rythym guitars have a good amount of variety with some fast death metal riffs that utilize alot of palm muting and you can hear some thrash influences while the guitar leads are very fast with alot of melodies that sound very powerful and at times they sound dark and doomy.

Vocals are mostly low pitched death growls that have a small amount of black metal influences and there are some ocassional clean vocals, as for the lyrics they are not printed but by judging by the song titles there soms to be themes about death and sorrow, as for the production on this album which was recorded and mixed at Abyss Studios during April of 2000 it sounds very professional and you can hear all of the musical instruments.

In my opinion this was a really good album from Hyprocrisy and it was one of the heaviest albums they put out after years of experimenting on different albums and this was kind of a cross between their more brutal days mixed with the more atmospheric sound that they were creating in the 90's, if you are a fan of atmospheric death metal you would not be disapointed with this album.

STANDOUT TRACKS INCLUDE "Legions Descend" "Resurrected" "Digital Prophecy" "Total Eclipse" and "sodomized". RECOMMENDED BUY

Drawn And Quartered Interview

1. Can you update us with what is going on with Drawn And Quartered these days?
1. Drawn and Quartered has been writing a new record since returning from tour in 2008, our vocalist has taken over the bass duties. We are now a trio. We recorded a song for a 7" and compilation for RELAPSE records. We are working on demos of 10 new songs, and have a few more as well. We started using one tempo for most of our songs now, this has made the songs a lot more headbanging, and more fun to play. We are looking forward to finishing the demos, and start recording a new record sometime in early 2010. We are also working on a new website, an updated logo and are experimenting with video taping some rehearsals of new songs for possible posting online.

2. I know that the band members have participated in other projects, who are they and what styles of music do they play?
2) There are just three of us now Herb Burke plays bass and vocals, Dario Derna plays drums, and Shane Kuciemba plays the guitars. We have all done numerous projects, bands and recordings. D&Q began as PLAGUE BEARER(Death/Black/Grind) back in 1992, and Herb Joined with me in 1993 on vocals, we performed and recorded as PB until 1995, Herb came up with the new name. From 1999-2001 I revived PLAGUE BEARER(Black/Thrash), and Herb and former D&Q bass player Greg Reeves were involved with demos we recorded around that time. In 2004 I assembled PLAGUE BEARER(Black/Death) again for the "Rise of the Goat" 7" on Nuclear Winter records, out of Greece. From 2004-2008 Herb, Greg and I were performed and recorded as WINDS OF PESTILENCE(Black/Death/Thrash). There is a project called SORROWS FADE(Black Metal), that I have been asked to play guitar for, mainly just some demos in 2010. Dario has done many projects including INFETSTER(Death), Krohm( Black Metal,he does all the instruments) and Recently he produced a demo for VESTUS OBSCURUM(Black) with Herb on some vocal tracks and Mike from INMEMORIUM on some vocals tracks.

3. What are some of the best shows that you have played so far?
3) One memorable show happened in 1999. We had a tour booked with VILE and CEPHALIC CARNAGE, we were to join them in progress as they finished off a leg of the tour opening for IMMOLATION. Herb and I flew down to SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA to see the show a few days before our joining the tour. After an awesome show and good time that ensued, IMMOLATION (with John McEntee from INCANTATION playing guitar on that tour) ended up playing a show with us in PORTLAND , OREGON, a special unannounced performance! That was great. We also got to open for MORBID ANGEL that year, and a friend of ours (Big Pete R.I.P.) was running sound for us and did an amazing job. I think the best is yet to come!

4. Are ther any plans to bring your brutal death metal assault to Europe and terrorize the stages ot there?
4) Sadly we just haven't achieved the status, or enough international interest to be able to come to Europe yet, and that is something we still believe is possible, in the future, perhaps with the release of our next record.

5. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music?
5)The lyrical content has ranged the typical concepts found in music of this type. Most of the songs have been about killing or death in some form or another. Our philosphical beliefs also make an appearance, usually in a violent way. Ultimately these lyrics are a reflection of the world around us, the ones that seemed most appropriate for the style of music we are attempting to create, at least. Our goal is to entertain, much like a movie or book, using imagery and concepts that convey a certain feeling.

6. How would you describe your musical progress over the years and what direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?
6) Early on as we began to explore this genre of metal, we tried to incorporate a wide variety of styles and ideas filtered through our de-tuned instruments and sub-sonic vocal approach. The earliest material has elements of death metal and grindcore, and hints of black metal. I felt quite limited in our writing, in Mk.1 of DRAWN AND QUARTERED. Our drummer at the time was more interested in a more rythmic approach with diverse and quick tempo changes, while I wanted to incorporate more dark melodic riffs and guitar solos. This led to my reforming versions of PLAGUE BEARER out of frustration, so I could incorporate more of these ideas into my writing and ultimately the departure of that band member. In 2002, the Mk.11 version of D&Q began with the addition of Dario to the band. The writing process became much easier, unleashing a flood of ideas leading the us quickly writing, recording and releasing 4 full length records, a demo, bonus tracks and some songs for a 7". We also performed many shows during this time, I did the PLAGUE BEARER sessions in 2004 and we did WINDS OF PESTILENCE from 2004-2008. All this experience, has led us to this point. DRAWN AND QUARTERED Mk.111 will be another prgressive leap, musically. Our use of the click track is making the entire product better, more polished without compromising any of the elements we've always incorporated in our music, darkness and brutality. Our last two albums have added a lot more harmonic and atmospheric elements to our music. In some ways we've gone back to the basics in some of the song and riff construction, and incorporated some evil sounding black metal influences again as well. The new stuff is much more driving, is chock full of memorable riffs and will be a much more enjoyable experience for our listeners, and should appeal to the types of fans that should be into our music, that may have not quite got on board yet. Some bands seem to make their best records earlier on, we seem to be doing just the opposite!

7. When can we expect new material?
7) As I mentioned before, there is a demo version of one of our songs for a long awaited 7" series on RELAPSE records, 'in the can' so to speak. So fans should contact RELAPSE for information about that. We have been working on recording demos of 10 of our new songs, to work out vocals, guitar parts and solos. We'll probably post some of these songs in the early months of 2010. We'd like to record a new full length CD in 2010. As we all know the music industry is evolving rapidly, so how our future releases will be released and distributed is not entirely known at this time.

8. What are some bands that have influenced your sound?
8) If you read reviews of our records, you'll find certain obvious influences mentioned. This is becoming tiresome to me, but these bands have formed the blueprint to our sound. So we are still finding our voice in some ways. But we certainly wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for bands like BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN. SLAYER and METALLICA, helped shape our musical direction, and later SODOM, KREATOR, BATHORY and DESTRUCTION played a huge part as well as POSSESSED and DEATH, in directing our musical directions. Bands like DISMEMBER, ENTOMBED, CARCASS, CANNIBAL CORPSE, MAYHEM, DARKTHRONE, DEICIDE, and many others inspired and influenced the music we play today.

9. What are you listening to nowadays?
9)I have always listened to diverse styles of music, and haven't kept up with exteme metal as much as used to. But I still buy records and go to shows, some of the bands I saw MSG GROUP, SUFFOCATION, VITAL REMAINS, ANGEL CORPSE, HEAVEN AND HELL, DEAD CONGREGATION to name a few, as well as numerous bands I encounter on myspace. Herb buys a lot of Black Metal vinyl and Dario downloads a lot of metal, so they are a bit more tuned into what is going on in recent years.

10. Does Satanism or Occultism have any influence on the music?
10) Yes, those elments have influeneced us directly and indirectly. But usually we use this imagery to mock or denounce things we think are ridiculous, such as dusty old, outdated beliefs and absurd rituals people followly blindly that irrelevant to reality in our point of view.

11. What are some films or literature that you have an interest in?
11) I enjoy hororor movies of all types, and sci-fi/fantasy themed movies. As far as literature, I like reading motivational, or 'self-help' on occasion, but mostly I read novels and rule books pertaining to WARHAMMER 40,000.

12.What are some interests that you have outside of music?
12) I have had a longtime interest in games and painting miniatures, often times I had to put these on the back burner as music, work, relationships and took precednce for many years. I also studied guitar repair and worked as a luthier at times. I find it is best for my life and happiness to have time recreation as well as work at this time in my life. I'm taking more interest in my health and exercise this year, and would like to continue developing other artisitc skills such as writing and graphic art.

13. Being a part of The Seattle ungerground movement since the early 90's how would you say that scene has evolved since then?
13) There are certainly more bands and a larger pool of musicians, but really it hasn'[t evolved very far in almost twenty years!

14. Any final words or thoughts?
14)Thanks for taking an interest in DRAWN NAD QUARTERED!

Beyond Creation Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Sim: Well we are a brand new technical progressive death metal band that recently released our first album called "The Aura". I started the band in 2005 and it's in January 2010 that the line-up was finally complete with Kevin Chartré on 7 string guitar, Dominic "Forest" Lapointe on 6 string Fretless bass, Guyot Bégin Benoit on drums and me, Simon Girard on vocals and 8 string guitar.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album?
Sim: Our release contains a lot of aggressiveness, intensity, some low and high guttural vocal parts and it has a very catchy, melodic sound; all this is where the "progressive" tag comes from. I think many people could find something they like in there because there's a lot of variety and it's well balanced! There's lots of guitar solos, some crazy fretless bass parts, a very versatile drumming style and a mix of many different kinds of music.

Forest: Hi! Our influences come as much from Quebec bands as from outside the province, and we try to push our limits as much as possible while retaining a natural sound. Simon composes and we arrange the songs together using everyone's influences, and we try not to repeat ourselves so that each song is distinct. Each member also contributes solos such as on the song ''Omnipresent Perception''.

Guyot: We are very concerned with making our sound as natural and organic as possible. For drums we used exclusively the sound of my actual drums for the album, and used no samples or triggering. We worked hard to achieve overall clarity on the album. Everybody worked on the arrangements to get the best out of each part of each song. I think it made for a lot of diversity, because each member has a very different musical background.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the new releases explores?
Sim: I tackle real themes such as politics, war, what's going on in society and what can be done, corruption, a little bit of science fiction and my way of seeing life. Every lyrical subject is joined together with the idea that everyone has a true and personal impact on everything that surrounds him.
4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
Sim: We all tried to think about something that related to the spiritual feeling of the band and the lyrical themes are are covered. So ''Beyond Creation'' was a good way for us to express our way of seeing this project.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Sim: Personally, I really loved our album release show at Foufounes Éléctriques in Montreal on June 10th 2011. We played our entire album and the crowd was very intense! It was a real nice experience!

Forest: Yeah, the album launch, as well as April 9th 2011 in St-Hyacinthe; we played with many of our friend-bands and the place was packed and there was a crazy vibe. We have a great fan base here and we hope that the trend will expand to other places in the years or months to come!

Guyot: The show Forest is talking about was at Bar Le Trash with Unhuman and Brought By Pain. It was a small venue but one of the most intense crowds we ever had. And as Simon said, the Foufounes Électriques show was a really nice experience and was the best crowd we could ever ask for!

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?
Sim: No, we don't have any tours planned for now but we are looking for European distribution and once that gets worked out...we'll probably try to get on touring out there!

Forest: A Canadian tour would be possible. We're planning the second album now and we plan to be on the road quite a bit, so for the moment if any big offers come along we'll surely jump on them!

7. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label and if so what kind of label do you think that would be a perfect fit for your music?

Forest: We'd love to work with a major label of course, and without naming any names, one with bands that have elements in common with us!

8. Are there any side projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?
Sim: We are all putting our energy in the band but besides this, everyone of us has other project. I'm playing some fingerpicking guitar in the style of "Andy Mckee" or "Antoine Dufour" and writing in that style. Kevin has another technical death metal band called "Brought by Pain", and he's also playing with a "Megadeth" cover band called "Hangar of Death".

Forest: I've been in many bands, but for now I'm concentrating on Beyond as well as Symbolic, a relatively well-known Death tribute band. Lots of fun to be had there! I also do session recording on demand for projects that interest me, but for live I'm keeping it to two bands!

Guyot: On my end, I'm currently studying jazz. Maybe one day I'll start a jazz project but for the moment, I put my energy in my studies and Beyond Creation!

9. On a worldwide level how has your music been received by extreme metal fans?\

Forest: The reviews have been really good, the album hasn't been destroyed yet, haha! We get the most comments from fellow musicians, and these always make us want to play more and persevere; it's really gratifying to hear from those fans.

Sim: Many people from all over the world have been giving us some real good comments about the album and we're happy to know that fans are spreading the word about us! It's very appreciated!!

10. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?
Sim: I'm now composing some new stuff and it will keep definitely keep the Beyond Creation style for the next album, but there will be more Jazzy/Fusion parts in the songs! We love to mix many different style of music so...people that like music when it's diversified will probably not be disappointed with our next album.
Forest: An even more progressive approach I'd imagine, with even crazier ideas, while maintaining a soul and a well thought-out structure!

Guyot: Some sweet jazzy stuff, prog/fusion and more technical tricks. But we always keep in mind musicality, soul and feel in our music.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Sim: In my case, I'm listening to a lot of different kinds of music like Fingerpicking, Jazz, Classical and Rock but some of my favourite metal bands are The Faceless, Gorod, Augury, Exivious, Necrophagist, Cynic and a lot more!
Forest: All music that has a certain evolution to it. We keep up to date in what's being released within metal, and we all go digging around in the past for old prog, jazz, and classical stuff.

Guyot: I like a lot of different styles of music but I have a particular appreciation for jazz and prog music. Some of my favourite bands are: Dave Brubeck Quartet, Planet X, Cynic, Death, John Coltrane, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Augury, Bach, Mozart, Satie, Jojo Mayer and many more.

12. outside of music, what are some of your interests?
Sim: Having a good time!

Forest: Yes good idea!

Guyot: Learning about everything I can! Studying music, reading, cycling, and for sure food!

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Sim:
Thank you and keep it metal!
Go check out our Facebook or Myspace for upcoming shows!
Guyot: Keep on supporting metal and music!

Forest: Thank you so much for the interview and Keep It Fucking Métal!!!

Deadend In Venice Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never
heard of you before?

We are Deadend in Venice from Germany. Hope you guys like melodic death
style Last Month we released our first album See you on the ground and
you should really give it a try! Catchy metal songs with male growls meet a
clear female voice.

Hope you enjoy what youll hear!

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

Direct, straight to the point, melodic and catchy. That are some words I
like to hear whilst talking about our music.

When we started, we wanted to be a melodic death metal band - just with the
gimmick of a female voice. Its not much more nowadays. Yes weve got older
and more and more influences grew around us but the core is still the same!

Often we hear about similarities to old Gothenburg sound and yes, we like
that.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects that the band explores
with the music?

The first Album was a summary of lets call it private and maybe society
oriented lyrics.

Often these themes also collide a bit. In songs like The monkey in my
closet or Personal decay I try to point out problems within peoples
minds and souls often created by society. In other songs I just blame them
for their stupidity or ignorant behavior. (Brain execution, Hate sweet
hate)

Tomorrow never comes should say everything for itself.

The newer songs will get more into detail about relationships of any kind
which will make the maybe next release interesting in its very own kind of
way.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

Interesting question, isnt it? Thats always one of the first points to
explain. Well, I thought about a situation you cannot escape - Trapped in a
dead end for example. Like the single human being is caged between society
on this earth which maybe has been a nice place once before my idea was of
standing in that dead end in a city which once was kind of a jewel but now
is kind of dirty and run down. The fundaments of the Venice are also broken
in huge parts while the tide rises and sooner or later all of that former
beauty is on the ground of the ocean. Like Earth going to hell.

That is also where the idea of See you on the ground was born from.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how
would you describe your stage performance?

I think the rest of the band would agree when I tell that the show in
Zwickau in 2009 was a real highlight. It was a huge crowd right before the
main act in the evening. So we were the first band with full lights and the
place was really filled. Great gig!

But we enjoy also the smaller shows, the ones where you can really work with
the people and the atmosphere gets into that family kind of way. There is
the contact often eye to eye and the people get more from your performance.

Live - we want to bring the energy of our music also to the crowd and
everyone on stage is pushed by adrenaline to give them what they want.
Especially about myself I often hear that I am sometimes near at going kind
of berserk. For metal as part of extreme music its very important to catch
the energy and bring it to the people.

Well, the release show in Glauchau I almost forgot to mention. Home crowd!!!

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?

Yeah indeed! After the festival shows in summer like Metalcamp or Rock im
Betonwerk we will get our hands on some touring plans for the end of the
year, maybe in November. Weve got in touch with two other great bands, also
from Germany and hope to get nice gigs for over approximately two weeks.

7. Are there any side projects besides this band or is this a full time line
up?

The lineup of Deadend in Venice is complete and we hope there wont be any
changes in the future. We are kind of family, so yeah it is a full time
lineup. I am the only one singing in another band but thats also local and
they are good old friends of mine. So everyone is 100 percent Deadend in
Venice and even more. That is also kind of rule in our band which has only
effect on me at the moment, but I take it as that iron made rule.

8. On a worldwide level how has your music been received by melodic death
metal fans?

>From the melodic death metal fans I think the reactions were really good.
Its a bit mixed worldwide. I got the feeling that people in Germany for
example are more influenced by styles like Metalcore than the people in
other countries. Here everyone is also bit more kind of stubborn than in the
rest of the world.

But all together weve got some pretty nice opinions from metallers all over
the planet. Especially in the East or in Asia but also America and South
America
listeners gave us some nice response.

9. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?

Like it harder? Well, because thats the way were gonna keep it. The death
metal influence got a bit in the background on this release so we wanted to
be the next one a bit heavier. Also in the fine-tuning of the tracks we see
some work that can be improved so on the next we want to work with more
guitar fills and stuff like that to get it even fuller.

Also on both fronts of singing we did a lot of work in the last months. I
worked together with a coach to get the growls more brutal and Annabell also
took lessons to get the best out of her voice. So both will be more
impressive to the listeners we hope.

I think also from what Ive heard until today the new stuff has also more
drive and groove.

The metalheadz out there should real give it a try!

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music
and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Thats always a difficult question. The influences are a lot because every
band member has kind of his own style of music and brings that also into the
work. In the first days bands like Children of Bodom gave Kevin the kick
to work on his guitars and catchy melodies how he does still until today.
For me as a singer oldschool melodic death and Gothenburg style like the
early In Flames was very interesting but nowadays I cannot deny to get
also the influences of modern metal and Metalcore. For the female voice of
Annabell I think we never mentioned any bands were we have oriented. Sure
everybody listened to the first Nightwish works, also bands like Haggard
but influence is the wrong word for that.

So it is for every band member. Up until today we like different styles of
metal and bands. Some like it catchy, some like it kind of progressive and
some just want some ass kickin drive!

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

I think we are typical kids of the 90s and millennium generation. Every one
of us is or was interested in gaming. Andy, the man on the bass did some
skateboarding but after some broken bones he also ended up in playing
computer games. As getting older it got more and more into the background
but often we still talk about stuff like that.

But with work and band theres not often time for that. Maybe thats better

Nowadays we use every free second for getting better on the instrument or
work for the band. Its very fulfilling. To get the head clear we often went
as guests on concerts, festivals and shows of other friends and bands.

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Hell yeah! Thank you to give us the chance to present ourselves on that
platform. To the metalheadz out there, we hope you got interested and wont
forget to check our stuff. We can also be found on the net.

Dawn Of Decline Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Dawn Of Decline is a french band from Paris which was founded in 2004 by Nico (guitars) and Seb (Drums).
After some line-up changes (singers and bass players), Toinn (vocals) joined the band, followed by Chris our bassist.
Since then we started playing some shows and preparing the recording of our first EP album Kingdom Of Madness which was mixed and mastered at Tower Studio.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

Our music is influenced by many Metal styles (death, black, thrash, progressive...).
After our EP's release on the web, we found some comments describing our music as Technical Melodic Death/Thrash Metal and I think it's a good review, as we tend to write a music that blends melody with technique, but without being excessive and closed to a specific style.

3. What are some of the lyrical concepts and topics that you bring out in your music?

Each song has his own topic, but the common ideas concern the different aspects of mankind, which both his thoughts and actions are often more destructive than creative. For example,"Lost In Time" song is about a man who feels regrets and doubts and get lost thinking about his own past and that avoids him to move on. On the other hand, "Kingdom Of Madness" is a kind of environmentalist song, which lyrics are about the Earth devastation by Man and his money and power hungry. Lyrics are written in first person, so that everyone can put himself in the narrated situation and relate to it.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the band' name?

Our band name represents the dark side of everything, it's a pessimist point of view of humanity's future.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Until now, we have only played shows in small stages with local bands. But if we had to choose only one, it would be the show we played last year at "Le Klub" with Yorblind (a very good parisian melodic death metal band).

6. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label and if so, what kind of label do you feel that would do the most to support your music?

Yes, we are currently looking for a label. Any big Metal label is welcome of course!

7. Are there any side projects besides this band or is this a full time line-up?

No, Dawn Of Decline is a full time line-up. Seb, our drummer, is the only one of us also playing in another band called Chimio.

8. On a worldwide luvel how has the support been to your music from death metal fans worldwide?

We are glad to receive many positive feedback from death metal heads worldwide, we're hopping it lasts and grows even more.

9. how would you describe your musical progress since the band started and what direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?

Kingdom Of Madness EP songs were written 2 or 3 years ago and since then, we already have a few more songs that we plan to release for a full lenght album at the end of 2011.
This album will be even more contrasted in terms of music intensity and rythm, but always with a lot of melody and fast technical riffs.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music, and also what are you listening to nowadays?

As I said in a previous answer, we have many different influences, mainly in Metal style, but each band member listen to other specific music styles like spanish Flamenco, progressive rock, folk and jazz.

11.Outside of music, what are some of your interests?

Drinking beer, eating meat, our girls...

12. Any final words or thoughts, before we wrap up this interview?

Greetings to all Metal heads, we hope to see you at our shows, you'll have the chance to listen to all of our last kick-ass songs!

Massive Slavery Interview

1. Can you introduce the band for those that have never heard of you before?

We are Massive Slavery, from Rouyn-Noranda, a mining district of Northern Quebec, a French province of Canada.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

We describe ourselves as a modern and melodic metal sound, with a sweet touch of hardcore and brutal influences.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and concepts that you cover on the new album?

Our first album, Global Enslavement, is a semi-concept album about the epic failure of modern society. The whole album can be described as a reflection about some of the worst part of our history, with theme like mass media disinformation, the enslavement created by the explosion of new technology and also the rise and fall of all kind of religion.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the band's name?

We have called our band Massive Slavery to illustrate the fact modern man is just a tool is this system….

Everyone in the word is enslaved by something, or by someone. Massive Slavery is everywhere; people can be enslaved by their job, by a corrupted system based on power and domination. Massive Slavery can also be found on a daily basis. You just have to check around you, a lot of people can’t live without their blackberry, Ipod, Facebook and Twitter. Other can’t leave their full HD TV, their videogames and completely forget about what happening in the word. We are becoming lazy and more easy to control by the dominant ones, corporated tie manipulators of our world!

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far, and how would you describe your stage performance?

Our first show back in april 2010 for the independent release of our album in our home town of Rouyn-Noranda was totally awesome. The show was sold out (400 crazy fans) and the energy was incredible. The heat was up in the place and I think we never sweat like that in our entire life. Metal fans in Rouyn-Noranda/Abitibi are simply amazing. We brought up 400 people to the show in a 40 000 people town so we can’t ask for more!

There is some live footage on Youtube if you want to see a little bit of what the Massive Slavery experience live is.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new album?

For geographic and timing reasons, we only made a couple of local show near Rouyn-Noranda. But we’re planning more in the next month/year. We want to conquer the Canadian market first, and see what happen next…

7. How has your music been recieved so far by extreme music fans worldwide?

The reception is pretty good; we are working hard to bring the album to new fans on a daily basis. The band only has a year and a half old and we already have a pretty nice fan base worldwide and we want to thanks everyone who supports us since the beginning. We are a little surprised that the buzz is growing this fast around the band and it’s pretty cool.

8. Currently you are signed to Maple Metal Records, how would you describe the support that the label has given you so far?

Their support is good! They are a new and young label, such as the band, so I think that we will continue to grow together and continue to take over the metal industry one fan at the time. We have inked a deal on last June and we’re looking forward for a great business relation between us.

9. Are there any other side projects besides this band, or is this a full time group?

This is a full time group, but none of us want to take it too intensive. Massive Slavery is a serious band with a lot of goals to achieve in the future, but we are also really down to earth. We all have day jobs, family and stuff so we won’t drop everything for intensive touring and stuff like that. We’re working hard to promote and reach new fans with online contact such as Myspace and Facebook, and we want to continue to create and play music for a long time, so the best way to achieve it is by taking it slowly and not burning ourselves in intensive touring.

10. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?

We’re already starting to work on some new stuff; Joel already composed the entire second album on guitar. We want to continue in the same direction, but with a more technical and melodic guitar sound.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

The most interesting fact about Massive Slavery is that everyone in the band came with a very different background in influence and musical style. I think it helped the band to touch a lot of influences and create an album that can reach a very large range of fans.

For myself, I’m more into the modern Metalcore/Deathcore scene, and right now I’m really down with bands such as Despised Icon, Born Of Osiris, Beneath the Massacre and Parkway Drive.

Massive Slavery/Global Enslavement/Maple Metal Records/2010 CD Review

Massive Slavery are a band from Canada that plays a technical form of brutal and melodic death metal and this is a review of their 2010 album "Global Enslavement" which was released by Maple Metal Records.

Drums range from slow, midpaced to fast playing with alot of brutal blast beats, while the bass playing sounds very technical and talented with alot of brutal riffs.

Rhythm guitars cover alot of ground with alot of brutal riffs that also contain a great amouint of melody and technical riffing mixed in with some metalcore ingluences, while the lead guitars are very technical and melodic sounding death metal guitar solos.

Vocals are a mixture of deep death metal growls and high pitched screams that have somewhat of a black metal feel to them, while the lyrics touch on the corruption of human nature, as for the production it sounds very professional and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the album.

In my opinion Massive Slavery are a very good melodic, technical, brutal death metal band that should appeal to all fans of this genre. RECEMMONDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shade Of Corruption" "Destroy, Rebuild, Repeat" "Wider We Open Our Eyes" and "Humanity's Last Hope. RECEMMONDED BUY.

Divinity Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Divinity is a 5 piece metal band from Calgary, Canada. The band was formed in 1998, by Sean Jenkins, and we have gone through many different incarnations since then. Now we have two full length albums out, the latest being “The Singularity”, released by Candlelight/EMI on Aug 10 / 2010.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

Everyone in the band comes from very different musical backgrounds. Some of us come from the Metallica / Slayer / Anthrax / Testament school and others come from more of a Death Metal background. We use that diversity to make our music more of a concoction of styles. It seems that no matter how brutal we try to be, the more the melody comes through and the more melodic we try to be, the more blast beats happen. On “The Singularity”, the songs really wrote themselves, where as our previous album, “Allegory”, was five years of constant attention and honing each note until we were happy. Our sound has been compared to later era Death with the brutality and atmosphere of Strapping Young Lad.

3. What is the meaning behind the band's name?

Divinity means a higher state of being or a higher power beyond human comprehension. When we adopted the name, it really just sounded cool, then we started to realize its true meaning and now I think we are proud of the name we have chosen. I think it’s helped us to rise above a lot of the strife and grief we have experienced and know that “Divinity” has given us a way to live better and happier lives. I mean, you wouldn’t want your band to be called “Sewage Stench”. No one would come to your shows. They would think you smelled bad.

4. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music?

Our lyrics represent our vision of what we live in right now. It is the age of computers, the age of robots, and the age of science fiction. 95% of all people will never question their place in a system of slavery, because they would rather fight for the comfort that the system provides, rather than the truth and freedom that comes with being enlightened and shown a new way to live. I’m not pretending to know the answer to the world’s problems, but we do look a little deeper than a lot of people, simply because we know that humanity has a better chance of thriving and finding peace if we change our ways as a collective now. These are the thoughts that go into our lyrics. Metal music backs that and gives a real powerful platform to launch thought provoking ideas.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

We love to play live, even though we aren’t known as the “tour dogs.” We do have a very energetic and fun live show. Sean always says something that makes no sense, and usually someone has gas on stage. So usually we are laughing and having a lot of fun underneath our scary faces.
Summer Slaughter Canada was a trip for us, playing with some of our longtime band friends like Neuraxis and Into Eternity, as well as some real idols like Necrophagist and Dying Fetus.

6. What are the touring plans for the future?

As of right now we will be going to Quebec in October to play some shows with Beneath the Massacre. Then we play deh Trois Riviere Metalfest with Neuraxis, Martyr, and Cannibal Corpse.
After that we are talking about a European tour. Stay tuned in the next few weeks for updates on that.

7. You are currently signed to Candlelight Records, how would you describe the support that you have gotten from the label so far?

Its as good as it gets in this genre, you know. Every band would like to be flying around the country and having lunch on the label’s dime, but times have changed, a lot!!!!!!!! So there is not a lot of money for smaller, more specialized types of metal bands. Someone really has to figure this download thing out because we may see a few thousand more record sales, but we will probably not see one cent for the next ten years. It may seem like a cynical answer, but the truth is, the label doesn’t hand anything to any band for free.

8. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?

I would like to see our third album go more in the huge and epic direction. Some other guys in the band may think we would go more brutal or more melodic, but as we saw from the writing of the last album, the songs will probably write themselves and we will sound even more like Divinity. But since Sacha (guitars) does all of the engineering / production / mixing, he will be even better at it next time, and the third album will melt your gizzard.

9. Do you have any side projects besides this band, if so who are they and what kind of music do they play?

We all have some side stuff going on. Sacha just completed his Enditol album, which is his solo project that he has been working on for years. www.myspace.com/enditol Its finally done and its even more tech and over the top than Divinity. He has Jarrod Maxwell-Lyster doing the vox, which means total next generation vocal lines with everything from Meshuggah to Tool in there.
I also play guitar with “Marija.” www.myspace.com/rijamusic We went to Nashville to record with Michael Wagener (Skid row, Metallica, Ozzy) and got a phenomenal rock album done. That was awesome. It gives me the chance to rock out a bit.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your musical style and what are you listening to nowadays?

Our style is a blend of everything from Metallica and Iron Maiden to Meshuggah and Blotted Science. Death and Cynic have also helped us forge something unique and thought provoking. Dream Theater is a favorite of all of us, as well as Testament.
I am currently listening to Katatonia, the new Jorn Lande Dio tribute, and the new Thrice album. Sacha has been really into Revocation, Heathen, and the immortal and timeless Blotted Science album.

11. What are some of your interests outside of music?

We do as much hiking and mountain biking as we can, being a half hour from the beautiful and awe inspiring Rocky Mountains. Being in the mountains rejuvenates you and gives you the clarity to write from the heart.
Brett does martial arts and a lot of sports, Nick plays with himself and Sean makes up dumb shit to say on stage.

12. Any final words or thoughts?

We hope to reach as many fans as we can with our music, and we truly strive to give people something to think about when they listen to our music. I remember what it was like to hear Slayer’s Seasons in the Abyss or Master of Puppets and just read the lyrics and let your imagination go wild. Hopefully people who listen will do the same. We put as much effort into our lyrics, artwork, and message as we do the music. I think that is the true test of timeless music. Music should take you to a completely different place in your mind, so you can escape the struggles of life and make sense of what you can. I know for me, music has been one of the only real ways I was able to deal with life. Good or bad. Cheers!

Untimely Demise Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

We've been keeping very busy this year with the Sonic Unyon worldwide re-issue of our debut LP 'City Of Steel'! The band toured Eastern Canada in April, did a couple one-offs to Alberta, and has been playing some higher profile local headlining shows inSaskatoon as well as a direct support slot for 3 Inches Of Blood here in May. Our recent headlining show on September 9th (in Saskatoon) was sold out, which shows some serious growth in our metal scene here. Getting signed to Sonic Unyon Metal in June has undeniably changed our lives for the better, as it has made our music available to so many people that we would have been unable to reach on our own. The group continues to write new compositions for our upcoming album and rehearses constantly in preparation for our Fall tour of Eastern Canada. The band has just learned that we will be playing support for Death Angel in Regina on October 11th, which will be another landmark show for us. We hope to book European and American tour dates soon but need a booking agent to help with that process. We have also just been confirmed for Manitoba Metalfest for April 7, 2012, which will be in support of a legendary death/grind metal band from New York (they still need to officially announce this before we can divulge who they are)! The band also secured endorsements from Godin Guitars (for Matt), Spector Basses (for myself) and a drum deal is also in the works for our percussionist, Scott Cross. The media response for our album has been overwhelmingly positive as well, the highlights so far being a couple large quotes/photo in Terrorizer's Secret History of Thrash Metal special issue along side Evile, Warbringer, Bonded By Blood and Municipal Waste, and a great review of the album in theMarch 2011 issue of Metal Hammer by the seminal metal-hard rock UK journalist Malcolm Dome.

2. How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the full length and how it differs from the previous ep?
(answered by Matt Cuthbertson: Guitarist/Vocalist)

The musical sound of City of Steel is fast, technical, and greasy metal. We put a lot of thought into how each song was written; we wanted many ideas and riffs in each song but still wanted them to come off as coherent songs; not just a bunch of riffs mashed together. The sound on COS was inspired by bands like Death, Testament, Arch Enemy, etc. we use these bands sounds as a bench mark of integrity, but still feel free to journey into whatever melodic and rhythmic realms that work for Untimely Demise.
With COS, we kept the speed and aggression from the Full Speed Metal sound, but brought in some more traditional metal elements which can be heard on songs like 'Unmaker'. I would also say that now there are more riffs and solos over top of the rhythms. Our mindset on FSM was focused on guitars and we tried to write cool sounding riffs that were tough to play. Now we are just trying to write good songs and it doesn't matter if the riffs are tough to play or not. (with that being said, I find most of our stuff fairly challenging to play)

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?
(answered by Murray)

Our band strives to craft lyrics that mean something to the listener and have a captivating story as the foundation of each track. On our latest album City Of Steel, we decided to run the gamut of lyrical content ranging from more controversial topics, such as honour killings and living in the detrimental throes of drug addiction, to religious zealotry, the futility of modern warfare, and even a track inspired by Orson Scott Card's 'Seventh Son' novel. The title track is an objective overview of the World War II battle of Stalingrad (1942-43), which exposed the Achilles-heel of Blitzkrieg warfare, by slowing it down to a crawl in the confined spaces of a bombed-out city. We feel that if we were writing a bludgeoning thrash/death metal album then it would be more gripping if the lyrics were taken from the world which we live in, both past and present, rather then drawing from mysticism and folklore. Truth is stranger than fiction, and more brutal then any tale the human imagination can spin.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
(Matt's response)

The history of rock and roll goes hand in hand with untimely death's. For example, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Randy Rhodes, Dimebag Darrell, Chuck Schulinder, etc. So naming the band Untimely Demise seemed quite fitting. Plus the band name serves as a way to pay homage to the late greats that help shape the music that we play.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
(Matt's response)

Well, it goes without saying that any of the shows we've played with bigger bands such as Evile, Gama Bomb, 3 inches of Blood or Toxic Holocaust were very exciting for us. Playing to a large crowd that may or may not be there to see Untimely Demise is what it's all about. I get excited and nervous before playing these types or shows, but feel a great sense of accomplishment after thrashing out a tight set and making new friends and fans for Untimely Demise.

Our last tour out to Quebec City was a big highlight for the band. None of us speak french, so the music had to do the talking. After about 2 minutes of playing during our first show in Quebec City, the small club erupted into a frenzy of moshing which continued throughout the night. They called for more songs after we had played our whole set which led us to try instrumental versions of some of our new material. After the set we had beers with all our new Quebecois friends and had many awkward conversations where we were trying to speak french, they were trying to speak English. The theme present in all of these discussions was a true appreciation for Metal, Music, and Art. Generally, this is how the rest of the shows in Quebec went.

As well, we had toured out to Vancouver a few years back where we found ourselves playing a gig in Squamish BC. This by far was not the biggest/most professional show we have ever played, but was just so true and pure to the metal spirit. It was an outdoor gig with a stage in the middle of a valley surrounded by mountains on all sides. We had a great mosh pit of energetic kids and a dog that kept us motivated to play as fast as we could. When it started raining, a bunch of kids held a tarp over our heads so we could keep playing and the gear didn't get destroyed. Then when night fell, the sky was decorated with northern lights playfully dancing along to our jams. It was pretty sweet!

6. What are the touring plans for the new release?
(Murray) *This is pretty much a reiteration of what was covered in the first question, so just use what works best for you

We are very anxious to get on the road and tour hard for our City Of Steel album! After self-releasing the album back inDecember 2010 we began planning tour dates. We played a small Alberta/Sask tour in March 2011, and then did a larger Eastern Canadian tour in April, which went all the way to Quebec City and back (a dozen dates if you include the Alberta shows). Now that Sonic Unyon has re-issued the album in North America, we are working hard to put together lots of live dates. After playing a sold-out (200+ person show) headliner in Saskatoon on September 9th, we will be playing Winnipeg on October 7thwith Alphakill and Endless Chaos, and then will be playing support for the iconic Death Angel in Regina on October 11th! From there we are touring through Ontario and Quebec in late October and early November, which we are super pumped for. Untimely Demise really wants to tour through the USA but have had trouble securing shows out there up to this point; kinda a Catch 22, promoters want you to have a following before they book you, but you can't build that following without having boots on the ground in the area which you are trying to book. We are just going to continue to push for shows there and want to meet more of our like minded American counterparts so that some gigs can happen in the US of A. We have our sights set on Europe as well, as a lot of the positive media coverage we have been receiving has come from UK and European publications, zines, and blogs. We are also confirmed for Manitoba Metalfest 2012, which will occur on April 7th and features a high profile New York Death Metal/Grind headliner (we can't announce at this point, sorry). There are always more tour plans and schemes being hatched here, so stay tuned.

7. Are there any projects besides this band or is this a full time line-up?
(Murray)

The band's primary musical focus is Untimely Demise. We feel that too many bands are filled with scensters who spread themselves too thin by becoming engrossed in numerous obscure projects. It would suck to have a new musical idea and have to debate which band would get to incorporate it into their repertoire. We all have eclectic musical tastes and backgrounds but realize that specialization has been the catalyst of progression in our world.

8. On a worldwide level how has your music been received by fans of thrash and melodic death metal?
(Murray)

The band's music has garnered a warm reception worldwide (from the limited number of people abroad that have heard it). As we had stated before, the international metal media has received the band well, and we hope this can translate into fanbase growth in new regions. I think that the Megadeth/Bay Area musical foundation present in our songs has helped give us a timeless sound that can translate in a variety of locales. The vocal stylings and song construction has made people draw similarities between us and Teutonic metal acts such as Kreator, Sodom, and Destruction, which is an honour because those are the types of bands that have inspired us immensely along this journey. With City Of Steel and Full Speed Metal (EP) we have already sold many albums internationally, with places like Italy and Japan being our most frequent return customers. Also, I think Matt's voice, which has elements of Gossow, Jeff Walker, and Schulinder, has helped bring us support from the melodic death metallers who normally wouldn't listen to thrash metal. When Sonic Unyon officially releases the album internationally, then we will have a better idea of Untimely Demise's perception globally.

9. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?
(Matt)

Our music will always be fast, aggressive, and technical. Of the new material we have written, the songs are fast and blend 80's thrash aggression with elements of melodic death metal. There are verses that have a balls-out feel with fast trem strumming combined with furious odd timed pull off combinations and on one of the newest songs I've got some cool melodic ideas that I put in underneath the main driving rhythm to enhance and add texture to the song. There is no formula for writing to new material, we just want interesting riffs and quality song structures. We are very inspired by the German thrash scene, Arch Enemy, and newer bands like Evile to give you an idea of the sound that we want on our new material. But we still feel obliged to put in a classical inspired lead melody or solo here or there just to let the songs breathe and to give them some extra character.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
(Matt)

Untimely Demise was originally inspired by Megadeth (Peace Sells, So Far, So Good), Death, and Arch Enemy. But we are clearly fans of all metal, from traditional acts like Iron Maiden or Judas Preist, Black Metal Acts such as Dimmu Borgir, and the Finnish scene (Children of Bodom and Kalmah)

(Murray)
I would have to cite the same acts as my brother for inspiration, maybe throw in Exodus, Testament, Heathen, and Overkill for good measure. Iced Earth, Kreator, Sacrifice, Toxic Holocaust, Striker, and Propagandhi have been getting some generous play in the car and jam room as well. Really I listen to so much stuff these days that it would be hard to list it all.

11. Outside of music, what are some of your interests?
(Murray) I enjoy playing Slopitch Beer League with my brother's team, The Rebels, Snowboarding in the mountains (when I can afford it), coffee, reading History, News, literature, really anything that affords me new knowledge, playing Jeopardy, Texas hold-em poker, cooking, beer and whiskey, watching the Blue Jays, playing outdoor Hockey at our local Saskatoon rinks.

Scott's interests aside from music would have to be motocross, crouch rockets, mechanics, shooting his gun collection, camping, fishing, reading, pontoon boating on his killer homemade 20 person raft, beers with friends.

(Matt) Skateboarding, Snowboarding, Drinking alcohol, going to coffee shops and making cliche, Seinfeld-esque observations, Cooking, Baseball, Animals, Scheming to take over the world.

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
(Murray)

Thank you to everyone that has been spreading the word about our band globally! Especially those who have taken the time to come to our shows, moshed, chatted with us after, bought albums or shirts, let us crash on their couches, and so forth. We can't wait to bring our live show to your hometown in the near future. The band realizes that we have been given a huge opportunity here and will continue to seize it with a humble grace. Please tell your metal friends about the Untimely Demise sonic assault, order the City Of Steel album from the Sonic Unyon Store (online) or through I-tunes, like us on facebook, follow us on Twitter, and all that good shit! We're gonna morph you all into 'Unbelievers'!!!
