Dehumanized Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Well we are busy jamming and booking shows and getting ready for our CD release. Our New album “ Controlled Elite “ drops Nov 27th on Comatose Music.  So we will be ending this year and starting off 2013 in support this album.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?

Musically these songs are shorter and more to the point. The production is obviously much much better and cleaner sounding but retaining OUR sound as a whole.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music? Well we had something to say about Religion, our fucked up economy, our fucked up government   just shit we hear about and see everyday  some conspiracy theories.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

Well we were coming up with names and the whole thought of  being DEHUMANIZED was pretty interesting since we as humans consider ourselves to be civil and so much better than other creatures on earth yet humans are the biggest plague to this planet and we do more harm then any other species on earth.  So it just felt appropriate.

5. The band broke up for awhile, what was the cause behind the hiatus and what was the decision behind the reunion?  Different reasons,  lost the drive , others wanted to do other projects or work issues.   For me I was tired of some of the bullshit going on in the band as far as responsibilities and shit.

6. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance? NRW Deathfest was incredible  GERMANY rules, New Jersey shows us mad love.  We just go out there to have fun and incite the urge to go crazy   Our sound is heavy as fuck lol  and we execute the songs well that and Mike is a great frontman and knows how to work the crowd.

7. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?
Yes we do and you will all hear about it very soon.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?
Its been awesome   people are fucking stoked to see us back and with a new album , ive been getting offers play all over the world   just working on it 1 show at a time.

9. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

Nothing  there are no other projects   DEHUMANIZED is are 1 and only priority.

10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
The only direction I see us going is up   lol  We have another album to give Comatose Music and I promise it will be what you would expect from DEHUMANIZED

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I cant speak for everyone else but I personally listen to a lot of Misery Index and Nasum of course Suffocation and my old school Pestilence and some older demo bands from back in the day

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
My family, online gaming, carpentry  Im always fixing my fucking house  Im actually trying to break into the entrepreneurship and starting my own business.  I don’t want to work for someone the rest of my life.

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview? Thanx for the interview and your interests in DEHUMANIZED  make sure you buy our album “ Controlled Elite “ on Comatose Music and for shows and updates visit our facebook page   www.facebook.com/DEHUMANIZED.NY and keep an eye out for when we are on the road because we are going to melt your faces off!!!

Avgrunn Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Soon we will start working the new álbum, so we can enter to records on early/mid 2013 … the album will be titled “Sync Protocols Froming Inhuman Results” and will be even more brutal than the album “Conceived Genetically Perverse”.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from the demos and ep's.
Our current sound is much different than the one we had in the demos and the EP … that was more death metal … but currently we are doing brutal death metal without a break … jejeje … the change was basically a reflection of the change of members in the band … I was getting the musicians I was needing to do that style … my endpoint in Avgrunn was get to do good brutal chaotic death metal, but well structured … and for that I was requiring good musicians … that currently I am lucky to have in the band.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the new release explores?
In the CD “ Conceived Genetically Perverse” the topic was more gore oriented and something of experimentation … but for the next album the only topic will be genetic experimentation and other crazy things.

4. I know that the name is in Norwegian, what was the decision behind using it as a band name?
Yes, the name is Norwegian. It means “abyss”. The idea came to the mind of the other guitar player who is not part of the band anymore … we wanted a name somehow different and not very typical for a death metal band … and that way merged the idea to use the name “Avgrunn”.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
The ones I have enjoyed more and the best ones taking about crowd response have been the shows in the mini-tour through France … with our brothers of Savage Annihilation … the shows we offered in Tours and Nantes … just brutal … the way the public treat us and their support were excellent … too much brutality those nights … jejeje … we did not think the crowd would react that way … our shows are pure brutality the people just cannot stay indifferent … I hope we would have more opportunity to play out of Spain … and any opportunity to play in any festival in Europe … to demonstrate and share our brutality called Avgrunn.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?
Currently we are dedicating our time to work in our next album and hope that for late 2013 we can make a tour through Europe … introducing the album … regarding shows, for now we are in a break.

7. The new album came out on Nice To Eat You Records, how did you get in contact with the label and how would you describe the support that they have given you so far?
Well, we had few offers and interested labels …No Label … Coyote Records … Sevared Records … etc. But at the end we decided for NTEY … Vladimir got in touch with us … we was interested in our album and he wanted to edit it … and we decided for his label.

  1. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of brutal death  metal?
Honestly we are very surprised with the reception of the album … there are very good reviews of the CD … and the fans of this genre like it very much … in Indonesia and South America are the places where we like a lot.

9. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?
Three members of Avgrunn (vocals, bass and drums) have another death-grind band called “Fall of Mankind” that I would also recommend you to listen … this current year they have released their first LP like Avgrunn … called “Frolic Among Remnants” edited by the Indonesian label No Label Records … and they also working in their next album.

10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Be every time more brutal, do good music … and make somethinghtat our fans enjoy … and that they may have the possibility to see us live … because in live shows the songs are more brutal than in the album.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what  are you listening to nowadays?
My influences are bands like Disgorge, Putridity, Deeds of Flesh, Putrid Pile, Disavowed, etc … those are what I usually listen to more … and what I am currently listening to is the new Orphalis CD that I have received just not too long ago … and it is brutal !!

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thank you very much for this interview … for the readers … Greetings ! Thanks to all the fans for your support … the next album is coming and there will be a lot of brutality … and thanks very much to Viceral Productions from US (Texas) for the support you are giving us …a big hug for you … and if somebody is interested in the band’s merchandising here you have a link http://avgrunn.bigcartel.com/

Agony Lords Interview

1. Can You Give Us An Update On What Is Going On With The Band
These Days?

Well We are starting the promotion for our upcoming album A tomb
for the haunted to be release through Chaos records last week
November 10 we played our first show with the new line up and the
new songs so we are in war right now trying to do our best for the
band !!!

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how
it differs from previous releases?

The sound has changed a lot since our last record 10 years ago the production
and composition process was so natural and full of commitment to do the
things the right way this time you know we are not as younger as before ja ja
so that perspective of growing has help us to develop a more interesting kind
of record this time all the experiences of the past all that old influences
Mercyful fate, Kind diamond and all that NWOBHM sound is in our music is
a tribute to all that period  of our lives but with you know with a modern kind
of vibe and this time we had total control of the production so this is
definitively our best work to date !!!!

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with
the music?

Always have been the paranormal state of mind and soul, the afterlife and the
mysticism behind ,,,this record is different I wrote a conceptual album more
into the tales of Alan Poe and kind of  Victorians age writers is a classic ghost
story , witches ,spells, crime and mystery , with a lot of paranormal situations
ja ja as I said before I love King diamond so it was inevitable to do something
the way they perfectly do

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

When we were playing in our first band Ripping Flesh in 1990 we used to
play death metal with lot of gore and rotten shit in the lyrics so when we
decided to go in another musical direction we wanted a more serious name ja
ja you know and in that time the sound of  the band was in a state of self-
discovery ja ja but we choose Agony lords because at that time we were more
into the doom metal scene that so brilliantly started to grow in 1992 we were
into that kind of doom stuff so for us was a great name

5. There was a 13 year gap between albums, what was
going on during those years?

Lots of trouble we were finishing school at that time some band members got
married and the kids came and that years were very difficult in mexico in
economics so you had to choose between a good job and take care of your
family or stay in the band and die  that was the shit about that years that the
reason we split up after Nihilist Passion was released we were not into the
band as before the life was pushing us into a lot of more stressful situations
where you have to decided what to do with your life so we decided to buried
the band for a lot of time but we never stop playing we continued with another
projects and ideas and finally 4 years ago we decided to meet again and return
with lot of energy and fortunately without pressure or stress of any kind just
the passion to do a great album and play live again !!!!

6. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how
would you describe your stage performance?

I remember in 1992 the show opening for Unleashed in Mexico city it was a
sold out concert the arena was full 1500 maniacs we were promoting our
second album The sun of the cursed so there was a lot of expectations, the fans
where so fucking great as they still nowadays , we always try to do a natural
performance no acting or posing fake postures and false image you know we
are in our way we are more into create moods and the theatrical way of things
but of course lot of headbanging and energy we are not puppets just playing
on the stage we are always communicating how we fell rising hands and
screaming metal will never die!!! you know ja ja ja we did a show 4 years ago
when we reunited we played in our city  that was a very emotional act the
band was perfect the place the people the mood was so honest that you just go
ahead like if the time was frozen for 10 years that was an awesome feeling !!!

7. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?

We are already planning the first dates of the promotional tour in some cities
nearby but we expect to start the most important part of the tour next year and
for the very first time we want to travel overseas so we are searching for
promoters over Europe, some dates in the USA will also be schedule so be
prepare we have big plans for the new album.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by
fans of extreme metal?

Right now is more like a new journey for all of us a lot of things have changed
in 10 years maybe for the guys of the old years our music could sound familiar
but for the new brigade of new extreme metal followers is like a kind of
discovery remember we are a product of the 80s and 90s but the response in
reviews anyway has been very positive and inspiring so we are trying to go to
more places this time !!!

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

We are composing new songs right now and of course the sound is more in the
actual wave, we are very influenced by the old but touched by the new bands
also but we have our own style that’s the truth we don’t want to copy to
anyone I really expect a more dark occult and heavier sound in the next
releases of the band more in the vein of the song A tomb for the haunted large
song with lots of mood changes and depth lyrical concepts

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer
music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

The most influential bands in our sound are of course mercyful fate /king
diamond stuff but actually we listen a lot of different ideas, I love stoner rock
and metal all that progressive dark bands from the old times from Italy for me
still being a source of inspiration, the band listen a lot of progressive stuff king
crimson , the first pink Floyd  and a lot of death thrash metal !!! so we are not
into a single mood or vibe we listen a lot of great music !!

11. How would you describe your views on Occultism?

Here in Mexico exist  a big culture of worship and respect for the dead the
dark side of the afterlife our ancestors were always in contact with the reigns
of the dead that their culture proclaims as holy and sacred so for us to talk
about that aspect of the human spirit is a common path of discussion of course
we thing different that the people around the globe I thing we try to be or to
express all that knowledge in a more global way we respect our roots of our
ancestors but in a way that can be interesting to another cultures !!

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

I’m a well known producer here in Mexico I have my own recording studio
(Revolution studios) we made recording mixing and mastering for bands and
from all around the world ,we walso work in more multimedia projects short
films and more commercial stuff  in post production.
right now I’m working on the new zombiefication album we are doing the
recording here in México and the mixing will be done in Necromorbus studio
by Tore Stjerna in Sweden by January and other hobbies are the movies I love
movies yeahghghhggh and music all fucking day !!!

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Thanxx for the interview I hope to see you soon in tour …be aware ..listen the
whole album support the bands you like buying their original stuff !!!! keep
the flame alive !!!!! This time will be forever!!!!

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  blast  beats,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording,  as  for  the  synths  and  programming  which  are  only  utilized  briefly  they  bring  an  atmospheric  and  industrial  sound  to  the  music.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  melodic  death  metal  riffs  that  utilize  a  very  of  many  different  influences  from  other  genres  of  metal  in  the  riffing  as  well  as  a  good  amount  of  soft  and  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  guitar  solos  and  leads  that  have  a  traditional  metal  feeling  to  them.

Vocals range  from  high  pitched  melodic  death  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  some  deep  growls  being  thrown  into  the  music  at  times  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  and  clean  singing,  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  themes  from  a  philosophical  point  of  view,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

Malignant Christ Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
a.       Well, we just put out our 2nd album, entitled “Ageless Reign” and released on Inverted Cross Records, and the reception has been better than we ever could’ve hoped for and we are now signed with Pagan Pride Records. We have a few shows coming up but no touring plans until next possibly next May, we are trying to work something out to visit several places up and down the east coast and possibly do a few shows in California next year but that is extremely tentative and is still very much in the planning stages. As for the album, I can say I am 100% happy with it, it sounds better than even my wildest anticipations of dreams for it would’ve been and the mood of it is perfect. Overall this is the happiest I have ever been professionally and creatively ever.

2.       How would you describe the musical sound of the new album?
a.       It’s straight death metal with a lot of influence from “Altars of Madness” by Morbid Angel, Sinister, Immolation’s “Here in After” album, the early Deeds of Flesh albums, Avulsed, Oppressor’s “Solstice of Oppression”, and Hate Eternal’s debut. Basically we just poured everything that we thought the band should sound like, sing about and portray, and stand for ideologically into this album and tried to make what we consider to be a perfect representation of what Malignant Christ should be.

3.       What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?
a.       A lot of the songs are allegorical meaning that they are metaphors for different things but I prefer to leave that up to the listener to find their own meaning from my lyrics. At face value the songs cover being ridden with disease, rising from the grave to reclaim your throne, dying and the process of death and returning to the earth, being forgotten and left alone to rot in obscurity, punishment for corruption, necrophilia, hell and eternal torment, and occultic wisdom and black magic. The lyrics come from deep within my mind, I’m a story teller naturally but I try to have meaning to what I write most of the time, although I do find writing guts and gore songs very much fun as in the case of “Laying Amongst the Rotten”, but even then you can view the level of disgust the narrator has with himself in the song as a way of expressing that what he is doing is somewhat abhorrent. Likewise, you have another song like “Ageless Reign” which is about a deposed ruler coming back from a horrible death and rising from the tomb to reclaim what is his and destroy those who usurped his throne which could be taken as a metaphor for anyone rising above something and claiming what they believe is theirs or something that they deserve.

4.       What is the meaning and inspiration behind the band’s name?
a.       The image and perverted icon of Jesus (not the prophet or the man but what the organized church has made of him) is often twisted to be used as a weapon and is therefore deadly or “malignant”.

5.       When the band was a full line up were you able to play any live shows?
a.       I play live shows now; I did a good portion of the “Forever in Chaos” tour dates alone although on some of them Joey Richesin (former bassist/vocalist) played the bass. I also did a few just before we recorded the debut and so far we’ve done like 5 or 6 in support of this cd. However, I don’t view Malignant Christ as a one man project like Bloodsoaked or Mangled Atrocity, although I am a great fan of those bands especially Mangled Atrocity who I consider to be one of the best death metal bands in the underground today, I want to be able to flesh my songs out more live. I have certain songs that I alone can’t play because of bass interludes and what not that I am dying to reproduce in a live setting.

6.       Currently the project is solo, are you planning on working with a line up again in the future?
a.       As of this writing Lee LeTourneau, our bassist from 2008-2011 who appears on our demo and the EP “Shrine of the Dismembered”, has rejoined the band for recording and some live dates and I plan on him being a permanent member. Lee has a house and a family now and just recently got married so obviously he won’t be able to do every single show and I wouldn’t expect that of him. We’re friends first and foremost after all. However, if we were able to get a tour or something and he couldn’t do it then I would try to find a stand in or session bass player for such events. Brian Kelley (aka Lord Kellicos) of Oakmoon has offered to help out in such a capacity numerous times. I am also always on the lookout for a 2nd guitar player and I have talked to a few people in my area but none of them have felt right so we’ll just have to see what happens, time will tell. But as of right now we are a 2 piece and hopefully that will translate to the next Malignant Christ album.

7.       The new album came out on Inverted Cross Records, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support that they have given you so far?
a.       Inverted Cross Records is owned by Philip Mason of the band Goatfucker and I run their Facebook and MySpace pages and they have also released 2 EP’s by another band I am in called Vomited Soul which is a grindcore band ala Gut, Agathocles, Dead Infection, etc… So I already had a lot of familiarity with the label. We also released our “Shrine of the Dismembered” EP through them back in 2010. Anyway, we were on Forbidden Records at the time we recorded “Ageless Reign” but Forbidden didn’t like the finished product so we left the label and decided to see if Inverted Cross would want to put it, so I called up Philip and he was more than happy to.

8.       On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of death metal?
a.       It’s been great, we’re currently being distributed by several labels such as Death Gasm, Pagan Pride, and Bloodletter Records among others and we have been afforded a lot of publicity opportunities that have not been there before as well as getting better show offers that we ever have in the history of this band to go to some new places we haven’t yet played. I’ve had people tell me that this album is a masterpiece which floors me because we worked so hard on it and to have it appreciated to such a degree is just mind blowing. All of the reviews I’ve seen have been favorable as well. I’m already getting questions about a third album!

9.       What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
a.       Lee and I have been working on new material for the future and it is similar to “Ageless Reign”, I think the next album we will have more songs and they will be shorter because to this point the majority of our songs have been over 5 minutes long and that sort of thing really kills you in the studio. Lyrically I’ve been reading a lot more about the history of the church and all of its horrors and atrocities towards mankind so that may take a more prominent form in our lyrics over the supernatural elements but the occult and supernatural implications will probably always be there with us.

10.   What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
a.       Mostly just death metal, I’m a pretty predictable listener. I also listen to a lot of anarcho punk, gothic rock, thrash, and regular heavy metal but the only stuff that influences Malignant Christ is death metal that I’m into and that’s my main musical love.

11.   How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism?
a.       A common misconception about us is that Malignant Christ is a Satanic band, which it isn’t. We’re a horror fiction band and all of our stuff is storytelling although there are a lot of metaphors in our lyrics. I’m a deeply spiritual person and the stories and characters in our lyrics come from things I believe in and to a great extent believe could happen to people. I believe that the organized Christian church and all of its offshoots are deeply perverse and evil and don’t represent a real god if there is one, they may have at one time but in 2012 the church is essentially a corporation and has been since at least the dark ages. I’m deeply interested in the occult and the supernatural and I spend a great deal of time researching these things but I don’t consider myself a follower of the occult, I’m really more of an existentialist or esotericist when it comes to my spirituality. I admire bands that stand by religious convictions like Vital Remains or Acheron or on the opposite side Mortification but I don’t believe in preaching what I believe through my music although there is nothing wrong with people who do. I think if there is a God then it is sort of like the air in that it flows through everything and in turn the Devil would be a similar thing, however since the Devil is a tempter of men he/it would typically take a physical form so as to be more palpable to the human mind. The God of the modern church as a man with a white beard doesn’t make a great deal of logical sense to me because physical perception is only a part of our existence and it would seem that logically the essence and true nature of God would be a manifestation of all things good and protecting and warm that we could comprehend happening at once and thus Hell would be the opposite. I think the universe is multidimensional and what people experience or even have the potential to experience is only a small part of what the universe truly is.

12.   Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
a.       Thanks to all of the fans, bands, and magazines who have supported Malignant Christ throughout the years, as long as you’re there to check us out we’ll continue to haunt the underground!
