Purify The Horror Interview

1.Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

We are a grind band based in Birmingham,UK.

2.How would you describe your musical sound?

I think ‘Ordered chaos’ describes our sound quite well. If I had to sum it up in another way then I would say that it is a mix between a car wreck, a comedy show and a schizophrenic transvestite’s tea party. We really just go for it as hard as we can and try to capture that energy which (to us) represents the true spirit of grindcore.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Lyrically we delve everywhere and the EP is testament to this. One song deals with Sergeant Squeal’s fight at a Christmas party in 2009, another references the anarchist reprieve to capitalism and the list goes on. We really don’t give a fuck what people ‘Expect’ in terms of lyrical content …….. But I would say that as a general ‘Rule’ we tend to avoid gore, rape and all that shit.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

It relates to our desire to incite the grind revolution and bring back some purity to the scene by striving for that nasty edge which the music once had. In this age, it feels like every little cunt and his dog has a “Grind” band. When really, all they are doing is sitting in their bedroom – programming some shit drums – releasing it on Facebook and dragging the genre through the dirt.

5. Has the band done any live shows or is this a studio project?

There have been no live shows as of yet but this definitely isn’t a studio project and you can 100% guarantee we will be taking to the stage when the time is right.
6.According to the facebook page the band is signed to Socialpathic Sound Recordings and Dissected Records, can you tell us a little bit more about those labels?

Well, Dissected Records is a DIY label in Birmingham,UK. It is the banner under which a number of extreme metal acts in the area have been associated with and it seemed natural to release the EP with them. Sociopathic Sound Recordings is a US label / distro. Their team have been amazingly supportive of us since our song was premiered online in early June 2013 and we think that releasing the EP with both labels strengthens our position and increases our overall reach.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of grindcore?

It is definitely a double edged sword. There is a real split in the scene between those who want this nostalgic stripped down grind (synonymous with Napalm Death / early Carcass etc) and the others who are into the modern bands with clean production.

But the majority of people into grind seem to support us and we can’t see anything but good things coming in the future ………

8. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

Some are doing better than others.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

We are going to be incorporating more punk and properly utilizing the dual vocal attack. No material has been recorded yet due to time constraints and other obligations but work on the next release is set to start in the coming weeks.

It will be funnier, faster and even more fucked up than the EP.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

In terms of grind – it would have to be Pig Destroyer / Napalm Death / Carcass / Brutal Truth / Regurgitate. I don’t think any of us have a set genre which we only listen to as we wouldn’t limit our tastes in such a stupid way but when we come together and write for Purify The Horror there is definitely a sound / feeling we are going for.

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?

We really don’t have any interests outside of music.

12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Our debut EP is 100% free and will be made available on Bandcamp / torrent sites and various blogspots.

Enjoy it. If not, then fuck off.

Scordatura Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Having just released our debut album we are currently gigging as much as possible and writing towards a new release.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?
The production quality on the album is a lot better than any of our previous releases. We spent a bit more time in the studio during the album and carefully picked the material for this release.
Musically this would have to be our best release to date as over the last few years we have all progressed massivley with our ability.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Lyrically we mainly stick with tales of murder and gore. We tend to throw in some humour at times with the lyrics. Most of our material is based on the crimes commited by some of the worlds most infamous murderers.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
The band name doesnt have any specific inspiration. The word "scordatura" comes from the latin term for "mis-tuning". It's just something that has stuck over the years and isnt your stereotypical death metal band name.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
One of the best shows we have played has to be our debut album release show in Glasgow. A fantastic gig all round. Some of our other highlights have to be the opportunities we had to open for bands such as Aborted, Cryptopsy, Misery Index & Wormrot.
Our live performace is generally pretty energentic, but we aren't one of these bands that like to do star jumps during our set. Some good old head banging does the job.

6. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We have a good few shows lined up for the rest of 2013. We will be doing a few one off shows around the UK opening for bands like Prostitute Disfigurement, Abysmal Torment & Defeated Sanity. We have a UK tour lined up with Fleshgod Apocalypse & Hate. We will also be playing at this years Nothern Darkness festival in the UK with bands such as At The Gates, Napalm Death & Decapitated.
We are currently booking shows throughout 2014 as well with a UK headline tour starting the year off in January.

7. How would you describe the death metal scene in Scotland?
The scene in Scotland is gradually getting better. It can be a difficult scene to please, but when the effort is made to put on a good show, the response is pretty good!

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?
Our album seems to have gone down pretty well worldwide, we have sold a fair few albums across the world. The US and UK have by far given the best response.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Our next release will show our true potential. The new material is definetly a lot faster and more technical. We will also be focusing the lyrics throughout the new release more on a single concept rather than indivdual stories.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
The main bands that have influenced our material have to be Dying Fetus, Suffocation & Cryptopsy. More recently we have been blasting some Bloodbath and more Dying Fetus!

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Outside of the music we spend most of our time drinking while enjoying a good few BBQs when the sun comes out (very rarley in Scotland).

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

If our knees bent the other way what would chairs look like?

Thanks for taking the time to go through these questions with us. We look forward to releasing our new material in 2014.

Cheers,
Dave, Owen & Tam.
Scordatura.

Necrotic Disgorgement Interview

 1.     Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Our new album “Documentaries Of Dementia” has just been released on Comatose Music and so far the response has been great! We just played Las Vegas Deathfest and had a killer show out there and got to meet a lot of fans from the west coast who had never got to see us before…  Basically just trying to get the word out about the new album as much as possible!

2.How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?
I would say musically it’s more polished and well thought out. As far as the writing we really just tried to write the best songs we could and tried to make each song unique and catchy and easy to follow and flow really good… The production of this album is definitely much more clean and polished. We did it ourselves so everything sounds exactly how it’s suppose to sound.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?
For this album I really wanted to keep the lyrics based on reality and things that have actually happened to people, so most of the songs are written about serial killers, torture killers, rapists… “Postmortem Fluid Evacuation” is about suffering and dying from fecal impaction. “Crack Whore Compost” is about Gary Heidnik, who kidnapped crack whores and held them captive as sex slaves and tortured them and when they starved to death he would grind up their remains and mix it with dog food and feed it to the other captives. Things like that…

4.     What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
The meaning of the name is to “regurgitate a corpse…”  It hadn’t been used yet and it sounded good to us so we went with it.

5.     I have read that the band has yet to do a live show, is that going to change in the future?
It has changed a lot since that old bio was written! At that time our drummer was still in the military and we were waiting for him to get back. Since that time we’ve played many live shows including New JerseyDeathfest, Las Vegas Death Fest, Central Illinois Metalfest, and many more…

6.There was a 9 year gap between the 2 full lengths, what was the cause for that?
Our drummer had to leave the band for four years because he went into the military in 2004, right after we recorded “Suffocated In Shrinkwrap.” So while he was doing that, we were writing the bulk of the material for “Documentaries Of Dementia.” When he returned in 2008, we immediately started getting new songs and old songs ready to play live shows, and since we had never played any shows in support of “Suffocated In Shrinkwrap,” we basically spent all of 2009 and most of 2010 playing shows promoting that album… In 2010 we had a lineup change and added two new members, Jimmy Javins on vocals, and Scott Kinnamin on bass, and really started drilling down on the material for the new album. We played a few shows with that lineup, and then had another lineup change in 2012 and added Phil Good to the band on bass… “Documentaries Of Dementia” was recorded throughout 2012 and here we are in 2013 and the new album is finally out!

7.     On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of brutal death metal?
So far the response has been great both for the new disc, and also “Suffocated In Shrinkwrap.” Brutal Death Metal fans are the most supportive fans in the world, and we’re very lucky to have them supporting us!

8.     What is going on with the other musical projects these days?
There really are no other musical projects to speak of. We’ve all had other projects in the past but none of those bands are active right now…

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
We’re just gonna do what we’ve always done which is try to write the best album we can… Our focus has always been to progress as a band without wimping out or having weak sounding parts. So many bands have pussed out over the years and they always refer to this as “progressing.” But I think that’s horse shit and I believe you can progress without having gay parts and even getting more brutal with each release while at the same time progressing musically is totally possible!

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I would say that we’re mostly influenced by what we listen to and also albums that have made a big impact on our playing styles. I’m still influenced by many of the same albums I was influenced by back when I was in Regurgitation, like “The Bowels Of Repugnance” by Broken Hope had a huge impact on my playing and writing style. Other influences include Suffocation, Older Cryptopsy, Pyaemia, bands like that…

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Not much really… Outside of music I live a pretty basic life. I just like hangin’ out and having a good time…

12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thanx a lot for the interview! We appreciate the support and we’re always wanting new supporters and bands to get in touch with us!   Purify  The  Horror  are  a  band from  England  that  plays  a  very  heavy  and  modern  form  of  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  and  self  released  2013  ep.

Drums  range  from slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  great  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  grindcore  riffs  that  are  very  heavy,  modern  and  brutal  sounding  with  some  death  metal  influences  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.
