Ataxia Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
-Were a unique 4 piece Death Metal band From London Ontario.

2.In November you had released an album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
-A very diverse mix of many different metal genres.

3.The band has been around since 2008 but so far has only released a single and a full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the gap between recordings?
-In 2009 we actually released a six song demo with a drum machine called “A.I.cide” The band was always on the look out for an actual drummer but the search took a while.  So the drummer search, writing and recording the album in our studio are the reasons for the gap.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
-Pretty much the observations of the world around us. Aliens, War, Sci-Fi, Metaphors, Government Conspiracies etc.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Ataxia'?
-Ataxia means “Loss of all muscle coordination” It’s a  rare disease… And that’s what were are, a rare original sound.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
-We have played a bunch of shows with some great local bands in which we always hold close, cause without the people close to you we are nothing. Cryptopsy was probably one of our most favorite shows that we have played, we just love those guys and a dude broke his ankle and the crowd was wild. Good times and as far as our stage performance goes it’s pretty chaotic, energetic and musically precise. We always get the crowd going.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
-If the opportunity arises we would definitely consider touring, but our main focus right now is to play shows and write new material.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
-Yes we are defiantly looking, we have also had a lot of help from our good friends at Black Element Productions, we also currently have some distro through Galy Records. But again until anything arises our main focus is playing shows and writing new material.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of brutal death metal?
-We have had a great response as an independent band, We have sent out merch all over the world and have received great response in every way from the internet to the crowds at our shows.

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part off?
-We all have little musical endeavors on the side, but none to bring to mention at the moment. Our main focus is Ataxia.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
-We have a lot planned for the future, there is already plans in the works to release a new E.P.
Just always gonna try to progress and create fresh new tunes for us and hope people listen.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
-Some influences I guess would be Suffocation, Hate Eternal, Deeds Of Flesh, Devourment, Cephalic Carnage, Lost Soul, Cannibal Corpse, Beneath The Massacre, Gorod and many others we can’t think of at the moment.
Lately we have been listening to bands like Archspire, Beyond Creation, Spawn Of Possession, Soreption, Nile and Cryptopsy.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
-Beer, Smoking, Fine artisan chocolates, Hungarian Paprika, Boomerangs and a good porno.
