Nethertale Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
The band was born in Benidorm in 2012 from the ashes of a deathcore project
known as “Big Chocolate” (not that north american guy, hahaha) and some  Nethertale members played in it. In the early 2013 we performed our first show as Nethertale.Later, in may, we released “Beast of the Nether”, a double single in digital format. A while after, we focused completely in composing and getting our fist LP ready.

2.Recently you have released your first album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
We strongly wanted a natural but heavy sound for “Abyssal Throne”, trying to get out of the steam of this ultra-processed sound that even sounds fake.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Our lyrics are based on an original story written by Jabo (Vocals). The story is about the seas, its secrets, its beasts and how men fight to conquer the oceans.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Nethertale'
Nethertale defines perfectly the nature  and background of our songs. The word “nether” has always been mythologically linked to the underworld. “Tales from the underworld”. Its sounds good.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We have good memories about our performance at the band contest WOLFEST, where we won the second prize. We also may mention playing at DARK FEST and also with our friends Stained Blood. As to our shows, we like to make the sound as similar as possible to the LP, and we try to improve it day by day.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
We are planning right now a national tour and we will reveal some dates soon .

7.The new album was released on Susperia Records, are you happy with the support they have given you so far?
We are happy with our relationship with Suspiria Records. They have put their trust in us and we understand each other very good.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of melodic death metal?
Since we have just released our first LP, we still can’t say much about the reaction outside the country. It’s soon to talk about it but we’ve got a good feeling.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We try to follow the death metal, and extreme genres in general. It’s what we like the most, and would like to evolve the path.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We are five, which means tons of influences. within metal, we can name a few… THEBLACK DAHLIA MUDER, GOROD, NEGATOR, NAPALM DEATH, SUFFOCATION, REVOCATION, HYPOCRISY, OPETH, ARCH ENEMY, BE’LAKOR, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, INFERI, LAMBOF GOD, ALL SHALL PERISH, SLIPKNOT, DER WER EINER FREIHEIT, OLD MAN’S CHILD, NAGLFAR, DISSECTION, AT THE GATES, STAINED BLOOD, ORPHANS OF
PIETY, ESTAMPIDA, WORLD TO COME… and a large etcetera

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
We kind of like the same things. We play videogames, read books, watch shows and movies, we like eating A LOT, the mountain… EAT BABIES, OF COURSE and get other men’s wifes pregnant.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Thank you very much for the inverview, it was good. Don’t forget to follow us on TWITER, FACEBOOK and YOUTUBE.

Coathanger Abortion/Observations Of Humanity/Comatose Music/2015 CD Review

Coathanger  Abortion  are  a  band  from  Tennessee  that  plays  a  very  brutal  mixture  of  death  metal  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Observations  Of  Humanity"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Comatose  Music.

Spoken  word  parts  and  programmed  beats  start  off  the  album  before  going  into a   brutal  death  metal  direction  and  bringing  in  growls  and  blast  beats  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  adding  in  elements  of  grindcore  and  the  mid  90's  east  coast  death  metal  sound.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  high  pitched  grindcore  screams  and  there  are  also  a  couple  of  tracks  that  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  while  the  album  is  mostly  brutal  there  is  actually  a  brief  acoustic  instrumental.

Coathanger  Abortion  plays  a  style  of  death  metal  that  is  very  brutal  and  alos  brings  in  a  touch  of  the  90's  east  coast  death  metal  sound  that  evolved  into  slam  and  you  can  also  hear  the  speed  of  grindcore  at  times,  the  production  sound s very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  society,  life,  zombies,  weed  and  drug  addiction.

In  my  opinion  Coathanger  Abortion  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  metal  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Suffering  the  Waek"  "Prescription  Paradise"  "Audra  Sleeps"  and  "Detained  Indefinitely".  8  out  of  10.

Shattered Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Julian: Shattered is a 5 piece technical death metal band from central germany. The band started as a project of mine in 2011. I wrote a 12-minutes-song which was called „The fall of hyperion“ - a song made of four big fragments. At this time i had nobody to play it because of the technical demanding so i've done the best i could - nothing. In 2013 Johannes Laudenbach (git) and I (bass) decided to start a new band which combines technical and atmospheric parts in a group with high tallented mucisians. SHATTERED was born. Soon we discovered two awesome guys: Jonas Pfeiffer on drums and Michael Bachmann on vocals. A few months later i won Florian „Ryan“ Wehner for the lead guitar position.

2.Recently you have released an album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

Ryan: Well, we did not release the album yet. We are currently unsigned and looking for a suitable partner for doing an official release. RECORD LABELS get in touch with us!

When talking about our sound I would describe it as a very unique type of death metal.
I see it as a perfect match between different worlds of music genres. We have many catchy melodic passages going on but also have place for brutality and technical complex parts.
Yes we do have alot of technical and challenging parts on our record but while composing and recording we really took care to not exaggerate and make the lines unnecessary complicated because our experience showed that complexity alone does not lead to better music.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Julian: The lyrics are based on several things like science fiction, alien- and conspiracy theories. Me, Johannes and Michael were the writers on NEW ATLANTIS. At first i've tried to create something new but soon i realized that it's way more successfully for me to retell existing stories in my own interpretation. For example the songs NEREIDS, FROM DISTANT SHORES and BIPOLAR DISORDER are a well known game concept of three parts in order. ANCIENT is our interpretation of the happenings in Roswell, New Mexico in the late 40s. INTO THE SHATTERING is a hymn and was planned to open the album. INTO ARCHADIA is also an existing story of a game i like very much. Check out the lyrics. They're full of emotions and meaningfull subjects.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Shattered'?

Julian: Maybe i'll disapoint you here, but there's no deeper meaning behind the name. Nowadays you got a big problem when you start a band and plan to name that individual. Shattered sounded good for me so i decided to use it.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Ryan: So far we openend together with CEPHALIC CARNAGE, FALLUJAH and HAVOC for SUFFOCATION.  We did open a few times for ABORTED and played shows together with ICED EATH, OVERKILL, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, MISERY INDEX, GORGUTS, KATALEPSY, BEHEADED, AMON AMARTH, BEHEMOTH, BLIND GUARDIAN, ENSIFERUM and many more...
It was a pleasure for us to play together with all those amazing bands and we had a really great experience.

You should experience our shows yourself and rock with us because I have a hard time to describe
in words what you can expect live.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Ryan: I know its been a few silent months if we talk about live concerts while we were recording our debut.
Plans now are to play lots of shows sure. But first we will find a suitable partner to release our album in order to play many shows and promote our music.
Meanwhile I do send our CD to as many online magazines as i can to get the attention our music deserves.

We are also interested in doing tours but most offers we got so far were pure rip-offs.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a a label or have received any interest?

Ryan: We are looking for a suitable partner to release our debut. In Fact there is interest into our music by several labels but unfortunately we did not receive any satisfying deal yet.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?

Ryan: We are connected with people from all over the world trough social media and we receive positive feedback all the time. The support we receive is really amazing. The people are sharing our posts to spread the word and get our music out there. Some even help finding a suitable record label  and make proposals where to apply. Thank you all!

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Ryan: Genre wise we are all very open minded for different types of music besides metal.
I´m a big fan of the classic music and I already wrote new stuff for the next album with orchestral parts in it. And so has each member his specific likings besides metal which will appear on our next record.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Julian: At now the only bands in Metal i listen to are Maladie, Fallujah, Protest the Hero. I also like technical suff like Severed Savior, Spawn of Possession, Exivious and so on. Nothing special i call my main influence.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

Julian: I spend a lot of time with my wife and our two kids. Beside this i try to improve my beloved old BMW series 5 and look for new musical gear.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
